Microsort Offering Free Analytics
Microsoft wants in on Google's dominance in free Website analytics. Google bought Urchin, which was a very popular analytics package and then offered it free to users. This was a big move as the package was previously not considered inexpensive. Many speculate that Google offers the package for free in order to get additional intelligence on Web activity (and to probably control the world in the near future).
Now Microsoft is offering it's own free Website analytics package. It is called Gatineau and it appears to have some interesting and cool features not offered on Google Analytics. Some of the features, unique or not, include, but are not limited to:
- Click and visitor tracking
- Marketing campaign reporting
- Conversion tracking
- Demographic and geographic segmentation
- Paid and natural search analysis
- Visitor information including browsers, languages, operating systems and resolutions
I feel this is a very good move for Microsoft and one that Yahoo should (and probably eventually will) follow. Below are links for additional information and free registration.
